Ridout, G. – The Beauty of Holiness (Beauty Holiness)

The Beauty Of Holiness

Topic: The Beauty Of Holiness
By George Ridout

In this 7 chapter work, Ridout (Methodist) presents us with 7 points of beauty in holiness: Purity, Divine Union, Humility, Christlikeness, Consecration, Love, and Perfection. He examines each one of these concepts as they relate to our sanctification, or our holiness. These character qualities should shine through our character if we are really saved.

George Ridout was rather modest writer. He did not even bother to place his name on some of his books. It took reasearchers a bit of investigation to figure out that he wrote “The Witness Of The Spirit. Rideout was born in St. John’s Newfoundland. He went to Boston, Massachusetts, as a young man and was educated at Temple University. He served as Professor of Theology at Upland, Indiana. He served as Chaplain with the 38th Regiment in France during World War I. Following the war he accepted the Chair of Theology as Asbury College where he remained until 1927.

Albert, The Great – On Cleaving to God

On Cleaving to God
attributed to Saint Albert the Great (1193-1280)

This famous and much loved little treatise, On Cleaving to God, (De Adhaerendo Deo) has always been attributed to Saint Albert the Great, who lived from about 1200 to 1280, and was one of the most respected theologians of his time.”I have had the idea of writing something for myself on and about the state of complete and full abstraction from everything and of cleaving freely, confidently, nakedly and firmly to God alone, so as to describe it fully (in so far as it is possible in this abode of exile and pilgrimage), especially since the goal of Christian perfection is the love by which we cleave to God.” –St. Albert the Great, On the highest and supreme perfection of man, in so far as it is possible in this life.
